Building A New Home? Add Protection Now While You Are Building

Posted on

If you are building a new home this is the perfect time to consider the safety of your family. Fortunately, there are many ways you can protect them. Below are two ways you should consider so you can determine if they are right for you.

Protect from Fires

Approximately seven people die each day from a home fire. So you do not become one of these statistics, there are things you can do to provide protection.

One way you can do this is by installing a fire alarm system. First, make sure there is at least one smoke detector per floor in your home. Next, you should install a fire alarm system. There are different types of fire alarm systems you can purchase including:

Ionization Smoke Alarm

An ionization smoke has an ionization chamber with two metal plates. When radiation from the fire gets into the chamber, it creates an electric current from one metal plate to the other. When smoke then comes through the chamber that disrupts the electric current, an alarm will sound immediately. This fire alarm will also detect small amounts of smoke, such as if you have a small kitchen fire.

Photoelectric Smoke Alarm

A photoelectric smoke fire alarm system uses a photoelectric sensor, collimating system, a light beam, and a light source. When smoke goes through the chamber and across the path of the light beam, it activates the sensor and an alarm go off.

To have the most protection, install both of these fire alarm systems in your home. You can also find one fire alarm system that contains both the ionization and photoelectric systems. To learn more, contact a company like Southern Maine Cabling.

Protect with Home Security System

Once your home is built, contact a home security company in your area to install a home security system. There are monitored alarm systems. With this type, the alarm system has a connection between your system and a monitoring service.

If the monitoring system is notified of an intrusion, they will first call you to make sure it is not a false alarm. If you do not answer the phone or you tell them there is a problem, they will immediately send someone out. The monitored security system can monitor other things like carbon monoxide levels and fires.

A burglar alarm can also be installed. This is placing sensors on your doors and windows as well as motion detectors. If any of the detectors or sensors are tripped, a loud alarm will go off and the system will immediately notify police. You monitor this system via a keypad that you have to enter a pass code to gain access to the controls. This allows you to quickly turn off the alarm if it is a false alarm.

Talk with your insurance company about these two things as they may give you a discount on your premiums.
