Setting Up A Fire Safe System In A Store With Vintage Goods

Posted on

If you are opening up a store location you will have to make sure that your items on display are protected. You will also need to make sure that you follow the appropriate laws for fire safety for your city and state. If you sell vintage goods, you may need to have a store with a lot of store space. You may also have items that are made of raw materials that can be flammable. Here are some considerations to make when setting up a fire alarm and sprinkler system for your vintage goods store.

Look for a system with foam

It is imperative hat you have a safe sprinkler system for your business. If a fire does break out, the sprinklers will need to be activated to neutralize the fire. There are some sprinkler systems that will distribute foam instead of pure water. This type of system is able to put out fire but may not ruin different substances just the way water does. Speak with a fire alarm and sprinkler installation system expert from a company like Eastern Fire Protection to determine if foam will work for your building.

Encase the wood

Wood is typically used to create and increase fires. If you sell older flammable items that are made of wood, you should encase these inside of glass or plastic so that they are unable to catch fire. If you have smaller wood pieces such as jewelry boxes or whittled wood, you can get glass show cabinets that will give you the ability to show and protect these items. If you have large wooden pieces, such as wood trunks or wood furniture, these can be placed in the center of the store and away from any heat sources.

Get the necessary tinting

Even if you do not have heat sources in your store, such as a stove, portable heaters, or lighters, you may still have an issue with too much heating coming through. Too much heat can actually come from the sun. On hot days, if the sun hits any sort of oil or metal, this could cause an item to overheat. With vintage items nearby that may not be made up to new safety standards, a fire could start. For this reason, you should invest in tinting for your window. The window tinting for your store is appropriate to keep your store clear from fire hazards. A tinting on the main windows can keep natural light flowing through but stop possible fire hazards in their tracks.
