Smart Places To Have Panic Buttons Installed In Your Home

Posted on

When you're considering various home security systems in advance of protecting your home in this manner, it's ideal to evaluate which systems include panic buttons. Such systems will include the standard sensors on your doors and windows, but will also provide you with a number of panic buttons that can be installed around your home. The premise is that if something occurs that makes you feel unsafe, and you're not able to reach the security system's panel in a timely manner, you can press a panic button to alert the security company's monitoring station. Here are some smart places throughout your home to have panic buttons installed.

Bedroom

It makes sense to include a panic button in your bedroom, given that you spend a significant part of your time at home in this room. Additionally, because many break-ins occur overnight, you'll be able to react quickly upon being woken up by the sound of a window breaking or you hear something else suspicious. Have the security company's installer mount the panic button where you can easily reach it from your bed. On the wall beside the headboard, for example, is a prime location for this button.

Bathroom

It's also a good idea to have a panic button installed in your bathroom — and, ideally, in each of the bathrooms in your home. Bathrooms are ideal because they're typically equipped with door locks, and are often the only rooms in the home that have this feature. If you realize that there's an intruder in your home, your first instinct will often be to dash into your bathroom and lock the door behind you. While you should definitely call the authorities if you have your cellphone with you, the availability of the panic button means that you can send a signal of your predicament if your phone isn't handy.

Kitchen

A kitchen is often a central hub in the home, with family members spending much of their time in and around this room. As such, it makes sense to have your security company install a panic button in the kitchen. The panic button can be placed in an area that is accessible to all members of your family, including your children. They should be taught to only press the button in the case of an emergency. For example, the button could be placed against the edge of the countertop or near the fridge.
